Mary Barbara "Barb" May, 62, of Greensboro, passed away gently and peacefully into the arms of The Father on October 12, 2016.
A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, October 15, 2016 at Grace Community Church 643 W. Gate City Blvd., in Greensboro, with Rev. Will Dungee officiating. A reception will follow in the church fellowship hall where the family will receive friends.
Barb was born September 8, 1954 in Rochester, NY. Although she came into the world with a number of difficulties, it never interfered with her ability to love her family and friends well. Barb loved her siblings, nieces, and nephews. She liked helping others, watching Disney movies, and listening to The Carpenters. Barb taught us the meaning of fortitude through the many surgeries and illnesses she endured. Her attitude was always good. We could always count on Barb to remember every birthday, anniversary, or significant dates. Her dear friends lovingly referred to her as their "Day Timer". She was always ready with a hug and kiss on the cheek. Barb was a life-long Catholic and a member of Saint Aloysius Catholic Church in Hickory since 1975. She spent her last years with her youngest brother Brian, who cared for her well. To those who knew her, she considered you as her "favorite". Barb was preceded in death by her father, Hugo L. May.
Those left to cherish her memory include her mother, Barbara Alice Karriger May of Greensboro; siblings, Ria Fialka of Greensboro, Tim May and wife Karla of Wake Forest, NC, Mike May and wife Kathleen of Greenville, SC, Fred May and wife Sharon of Greensboro, Damian May of Toronto, Canada, Sara May of Holly Springs, NC, Mimi Russell and husband Russ of Dodge City, KS, and Brian May and wife Anna of Greensboro; 25 nieces and nephews; 10 great-nieces and great-nephews; and a host of extended family.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro, 2500 Summit Ave., Greensboro, NC 27405, due to the wonderful care they extended to Barb's father during his last days.
Hanes-Lineberry N. Elm Chapel has the honor of assisting the May family.
