Dorothy "Dot" Tingen Patterson, 84, passed away on Friday, November 25, 2016. She was born on March 19, 1932 in Caswell County, NC, the daughter of John S. and Eunice Page Tingen. After a blind date brought them together, she married the love of her life, Billy Frank Patterson Sr. in 1954. Dot and Bill lived for each other and their family from that day forward.

Dot was a member of the last graduating class at St. Leo's Catholic Hospital Nursing School in 1953 and spent the next 43 years dedicated to the field. Bill's work took them to several different cities during his career, but she always found a way to serve others. She worked in a number of hospitals and other nursing capacities around North Carolina during her career. Before retiring in 1997, Dot worked for the city of Greensboro as an occupational health nurse. Nursing was one of her greatest passions because she loved meeting people and caring for them.

Dot had a strong faith and was always active in the church. When she and Bill moved to Greensboro in the late 1970s, they joined First Baptist Church where they both became active members. They were also active members of the White Shrine of Greensboro and the Order of the Eastern Star of Greensboro, Chapter 14.

Dot lived a life to serve others and was always concerned that others were taken care of. Throughout her long life, family was her top focus, and she devoted her life to her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. In her many years in the nursing field, she showed great compassion to every person she met. She loved people, and she loved caring for them no matter their age, race, or station in life. Even after she retired, she never stopped nursing. She spent many hours caring for those from church or the Eastern Star who were ailing or needed assistance in any way. She was the epitome of a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend to all who knew and loved her. She will be deeply missed.

Dot was preceded in death by her husband Bill in February of this year and her grandson, John Everet Patterson. Those left to cherish her memory are her children and their spouses, Billy Frank Patterson Jr. (Cathy Dover) of West Columbia, SC and Karen Patterson Beavans (Bill) of Jamestown, NC; grandchildren, Audrey Patterson Foust (Jesse), Heather Patterson Power (Todd), Jessica Beavans Morgan (Brian), and Elizabeth Beavans Benbow (Brandon); great grandchildren, Trevor Foust, Skylar Foust, Britney Patterson, and Bryce Grant.

The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hanes Lineberry N. Elm Chapel. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, 11:00 a.m. at the Lineberry Center at Hanes Lineberry N. Elm Chapel with Dr. Steve Pressley officiating. Burial will follow at Alamance Memorial Park in Burlington.

The family wishes to thank the staff of both Ashton Place and Hospice for the care and concern given to their mother. Memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro, 2500 Summit Ave. Greensboro, NC 27405.
